This family from Singapore decided to book a full Day in the Life photoshoot with me so they could capture all of their adventures with two little kids without worrying about time limits or coordinating naptimes. I really do find that often – maybe rather counter-intuitively – a longer photoshoot is better for young children as there’s no pressure to perform in a limited time frame. You are free to just get on with your day, and that makes both the children and the parents very relaxed, which in turn results in fantastic photographs.
I took this photograph a year ago today at People’s Vote March. Yesterday, once again, I marched with over one million people in London for People’s Vote. Then, as now, this image of father and daughter, tired and frustrated with the current state of affairs, wanting their voice to be heard, is what Britain looks to me right now. That’s why earlier this year I submitted this image for the Portrait of Britain award, and I’m so thrilled that the judges saw what I saw too and shortlisted it among 200 other amazing photographs.
This family travelled to London from Tennessee, USA and decided to book the whole day with me so they didn’t have to “fit” the photoshoot into their already packed schedule (exactly what it’s intended for – busy families with lots on their plate!).
Back in the summer I was very lucky to get to photograph the very first river baptism held at St Mary’s Church Hampton, South West London.
My dad used to take a lot of pictures of me, especially as a baby (an instinct I totally understand now as a parent myself). The older I got, the fewer photographs were taken, but one thing remained constant – very, very few photographs of me were WITH my parents, and NEVER with both of them at the same time.
