If you’d looked into my house last week, on International Women’s Day, you’d find me staring at my screen in disbelief with a big grin on my face. I’d just found out that that I received TWELVE awards in the 2018 Family Photojournalist Association contest, including no less than 6 gold awards, the most gold awards of any UK documentary family photographer listed with them!
When I submitted my images for consideration I was, of course, hoping I’d win something, but six golds? And on some of my most favourite images ever? Not in my wildest dreams, especially if you consider that this contest is judged by some very talented photojournalists, including Pulitzer prize winners
Being a photographer (as any artist, really) has it’s ups and downs, from periods of darkness of doubting yourself and hating every single picture you produce, to elation when you receive a thank you note from a happy client or when you gain industry recognition. Need I say that I’m riding on a great high right now :)
I’m still flabbergasted and so thankful to everyone who trusted me to capture those precious images for them and document their family life authentically.
Here are the winning images – which one is your favourite?
