Back in May we travelled to Lake District with our friends for a long bank holiday weekend. We stayed in a little village called Newby Bridge on the banks of the lake Windemere. It was a quick drive to take a day boat trip, and the children really enjoyed being on a big boat (and doing lots of going up and down the decks while we were at it!). When we reached the other side, we decided to take a smaller boat and go visit Wray Castle which felt like we were the explorer? stepping out on some forgotten island, so pretty and wild was the surrounding countryside on our walk up there.
I haven’t really done many picture of the house we were staying in, but it was the most perfect house with a large kitchen/diner, spacious rooms and a wonderful staircase the kids really enjoyed running up and down on! Not to mention the huge garden overlooking bluebell woods in the neighbour’s plot of land. Oh, and the hot tub! :) You can book it here.
On our last day we headed a bit further up north to visit Lowther Castle. Gosh I love me a nice big ruin to wonder round! It is a really fascinating place and we were really surprised when we learned about it’s history and how it came to fall into disrepair so quickly (hint: council tax regulations are to blame!).
Finally, a rare picture of all 3 of us at the end of our trip!
All in all, it was a lovely – but of course a slightly tiring – adventure, as any long drive with a 3 year olds in tow is bound to be. Still, I’m not giving up our wanderings for the world, as it means we get to see and experience new places and meet new people. And it my world, that’s what learning is all about!
